PURPOSE:To provide the titled novel polyesteramide, constituted by each specific recurring units and composition, having specific logarithmic viscosity, capable of forming optically anisotropic molten phase, formable into fiber, film, molded article, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer with a logarithmic viscosity >=1dl/g at 60 deg.C, giving optical anisotropy at <=400 deg.C can be obtained by polymerization between the following five components: (A) 40-80mol% of a raw material capable of forming recurring unit of formula I (e.g., 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid), (B) 5-30mol% of a second raw material capable of forming recurring unit of formula II (X is divalent straight-orienting aromatic residue having at least one aromatic ring) (e.g., terephthalic acid), (C) 5-30mol% of a third raw material capable of forming recurring unit of formula III (Y is the same as X) (e.g., 4-aminobenzoic acid), (D) 5-30mol% of a fourth raw material capable of forming recurring unit of formula IV (Z is the same as X) (e.g., hydroquinone) and (E) 4-hydroxybenzoic acid capable of forming recurring unit of formula V.
