PURPOSE:To easily obtain an organopolysiloxane having alkoxy groups at its both ends using no catalyst, by reaction of alcohol with an organopolysiloxane prepared by reaction, in an anhydrous state, between organosiloxane and organosilane. CONSTITUTION:The objective organopolysiloxane of formula IV can be obtained by reaction, with an alcohol of formula R<6>OH (R<6> is monovalent 1-8C hydrocarbon), of (A) an organopolysiloxane of formula III prepared by reaction, in an anhydrous state, between (i) an organosiloxane of formula I (R<1> and R<2> are each methyl, vinyl, phenyl, etc., n is 20-1,000) and (ii) an organosilane of formula R<3>Si(O-N=X)3 (R<3> is methyl, ethyl, etc., X is =CR<4>2 or of formula II; R<4> is monovalent hydrocarbon or monovalent halogenated hydrocarbon; R<5> is divalent hydrocarbon or divalent halogenated hydrocarbon) in a molar ratio; R<3>Si(O- N=X)3/identicalSiOH>=1 in a molar ratio; R<6>OH/SiO-N=X>=1.
