PURPOSE:To reduce a decrease in the quantity of flotation of a slider for a magnetic head due to sticking dust and to improve the reliability of a device by equipping the slider for the magnetic head with a rail for flotation which has a tapered part and a flat part and allowing the flotation rail to meet specific requirements. CONSTITUTION:The slider on which a magnetic head 1 is mounted is supported by a gimbals 3 which permits the slider to pitch and roll and a load arm 5 which is pressed against a disk rotating in the rotating direction of the slider 2. The slider 2 is provided with two rails 6 on its surface facing the disk 4 and when the disk rotates, air is sucked in between the rails 6 and disk 4 to produce pressure. Then, inequalities I and II hold, where lx is the length of the rails 6, W(gf) the pressing force of the slider 2, lr the taper length of an inflow part, and thetar deg. the angle of tapering.
