PURPOSE:To obtain a good white balance against mal-operating etc. by executing a tracking white balance until a start-up trigger signal of an image pickup is supplied and by maintaining the white balance state of immediately before the said supply of trigger signal. CONSTITUTION:When the power supply source is turned on, a turning-on detector circuit 51 generates a turning-on pulse 53, and both white balance signals 41R2 and 41B2 are set at the same voltage as that of signals 35R1 and 35B1 outputted from a tracking white balance circuit 33. Then, turning on/off of a switch 39 is decided, and if it is off, whether a trigger switch 55 is on or not is decided. If the switch 55 is off, the device acts so that the white balance signals 41R2 and 41B2 become equal with the tracking white balance signals 35R1 and 35R1. But if the trigger switch 55 is one, the value of immediately before the turning-on of the source is maintained. In case switch 39 is depressed, normal set white balance action is executed.
