PURPOSE:After radiation is absorbed in a fluorescent material of Cs, Rb halides activated with brightening divalent Eu, it is irradiated with specific electromagnetic waves to allow the radiation energy to emit in the form of fluorescence and the fluorescence is detected to effect image conversion. CONSTITUTION:The radiation which has transmitted through the substrate or has been emitted from the substrate is allowed to absorb in a fluorescent material of Cs.Rb halide activated with divalent Eu of the formula (X, X' are Cl, Br, I; 0<a<=10.0; 0<x<=0.2). Then, the fluorescent material is irradiated with electromagnetic waves of 450-900nm, preferably 600-750nm wavelength to permit the radiation energy to emit as fluorescence and the fluorescence is read photoelectrically and converted into electric signals for image formation. EFFECT:X-ray images rich in information is obtained with reduced exposure to X-ray. USE:Direct radiography for medical purposes, etc.
