PURPOSE:To permit the detection of residual maintaining liquid by a method in which a maintaining liquid tank is made of a soft bag and confined with a fixed amount of a gas, together with the maintaining liquid. CONSTITUTION:A blocking preventer 100 with a cap part 5 to cover the nozzle of a printing head 1 is provided in the face of the home position 3A of a carriage 3. A tank 28A to store maintaining liquid to be supplied to the preventer 100 and waste liquid from the head 1 and the preventer 100 is provided below the home position 3A. A waste liquid recovery port 28A is provided in the upside of the case of the tank 28, and a connecting port 28B to supply maintaining liquid from a tank 26 to a pipe 22a is provided in one-side wall of the tank 28. The tank 26 in the tank 28 is soft bag made of a resin and its opening is positioned inside of the connecting port 28B. Since a fixed amount of a gas is confined in the tank(bag) 26, when the maintaining liquid reaches less than a fixed amount, the conductivity between electrodes 26a and 26b is interrupted and it can be detected. |
