PURPOSE:To prevent speed change shock by holding a frictional fastening member under the fastening condition corresponding to the range prior to the change- over while a shift lever passes through the neutral range in a short time when the fixed ranges are changed over. CONSTITUTION:Time from turning off a prior range switch to tuning on any switches other than a neutral range switch in speed change by the operation of a shift lever F is measured by a speed change time measuring means H. A control means 1 permits the fastening condition of a frictional fastening member C to be held under the condition corresponding to the range prior to change-over in a measuring time shorter than a predetermined time when the shifter lever F is used for manual speed change. Thus, a transmission is held under the neutral condition so that the lack of drive force and speed change shock caused by same can be prevented.
