<p>PURPOSE:To shorten the transmission time of a picture information without inviting the deterioration of an output picture by reduce-processing the picture element data or the gradation information of a picture including the gradation information down to the deterioration level of the spatial resolution. CONSTITUTION:A signal picked up by a TV camera 1 is stored in a transmission picture memory 3 after undergoing an A/D converter 2. The stored picture signal is processed to decrease its picture elements by a picture-element thinning processing circuit 11 on the transmission (recording)-side. By this picture-element thinning, a contracted picture which is the picture element data processed by spatial reduction, is obtained. This reduced picture is transmitted (recorded) by a transmission (recording) equipment 5. On the reception-side, a picture element insertion processing circuit 12 inserts the reduced picture elements, and enlarges the picture to give a color still picture having the same size as the one picked up by the TV camera 1. After storing the resulting picture in a memory 7, a dither processing is executed and the resulting binary coded picture data is outputted to a hardcopy machine 8.</p> |
