A force transmitting structural member is provided having the combined features of high tensile strength, torsional flexibility and a widely variable tensile spring-rate. The structural member includes an endless elliptical-shaped section of a plurality of filaments 15, wrapped around and connecting a pair of spaced end fittings 13 to form semi-elliptical shaped side portions 17, 19.
