<p>The instrument consists of a hollow tube, through which a hollow arbor with scraping tools on its face to clean the ingot surface is pushed, the hollow arbor is turned back and forth by a motor, and the ingot is inspected through it, pref. using an optical fibre. The novelty is that the scraper-carrying end of the arbor has separate head (axially bored) with (pref.) three prongs at the rear of the head which fit, with some play, in three grooves on the body of the arbor. A fixing ring retains the head in position. A little further play is provided by making the rear of the head slightly convex where it meets the flat face of the arbor.</p> |
