PURPOSE:To obtain the titled medium which is not cracked and hardly deteriorated by oxidation and whose durability is improved by alternately arranging a high-refractive index layer and a low-refractive index layer and forming a multilayered film consisting only of 3-5 layers. CONSTITUTION:A dielectric multilayered film 3 is provided between a substrate 1 and a magnetic thin film 4 to increase the reflectivity of the substrate 1 and to improve the apparent Kerr's rotating angle. The film 3 is formed with a high-refractive index layer 3H consisting of a carbide or nitride dielectric and a low-refractive index layer 3L consisting of silicon dioxide and a 3H/3L/3H structure or a 3H/3L/3H/3L/3H structure is formed. Consequently, the film 3 can be formed with a comparatively small number of layers, any cracks are not generated, the film 4 is hardly deteriorated by oxidation because the film 3 consists of a carbide or nitride dielectric and the durability is improved.
