PURPOSE:To reduce light transmission loss at low temp. by using glass fiber comprising linear organopolysiloxane, appropriate content of specified organopolysiloxane and organo hydrogen polysiloxane, and catalytic amt. of Pt compd. CONSTITUTION:A clad material for glass fiber to be used for optical communication consists of linear organopolysiloxane contg. at least two vinyl groups in a molecule, a specified organopolysiloxane contg. (CH2=CH)R2SiO0.5 units and R3SiO0.5 units (wherein R is unsubstituted or substituted univalent hydrocarbon group contg. no same or different aliphatic unsatd. group), and SiO2 units, wherein the molar ratio of the SiO2 unit to other two units is 0.5-2.0, the content of the vinyl group is 0.5-3.5%, sufficient amt. of organo hydrogen polysiloxane necessary for giving 0.5-5H atoms bonded to the Si atoms per one vinyl group in the above-described two components, contg. at least two above described H atoms in a molecule, and catalytic amt. of Pt compd., wherein the proportion of the above-described second component is 10-30% basing on the amt. of the total siloxane.
