In this case, when the image is larger than the visual field of the scanner, image data obtained by making a scan plural times are put together by a correcting circuit 6 and stored in an image file 7. A control circuit 17 controls the storage of the compos ite data in the file 7 and also reads the data out of the file 7, and the data is processed as required through an enlargement and reduction part 10, an image segmentation part 11, a composition part 12, a display device 8, etc. Thus, the enlargement and reduction part 10, segmentation part 11, etc., are provided to segment only desired parts of the image, compose and insert them, and transmit data through an interface 13 in addition to the display, printing, enlargement, reduction, etc., of the original data.
