PURPOSE:To detect a magnetic pole position and a rotational position digitally, to decrease the number of signals and to improve reliability and economy with simple constitution by superposing one of signals of rotational positions upon the signal of the magnetic pole position. CONSTITUTION:A slit pattern 3 consists of three modulated (processed) magnetic pole position slit patterns 11A-13a and one rotational position slit pattern 15 synchronized with them. Namely, modulated magnetic pole position signals 21A-23A are magnetic field position signals U-A-W-A of pulse trains obtained by modulating the magnetic pole position signals 21-23 by the rotational position signal respectively and then correspond to the modulated slit patterns 1A-13A. Further, the rotational position signal is a rotation position signal synchronized with the modulated signals 21A-23A. Thus, the signal is outputted by an encoder as a position detection signal and four signals in total are transmitted by a cable, etc., the three modulated signals 21A-23A and one rotational position signal.
