PURPOSE:To prevent recognition mistake due to mis-operation of the user by applying check discrimination with the maximum similarity decision with the full standard pattern, switching automatically the designation of partial group into a partial group decided by check discrimination when a contradiction between the discrimination result and the check discrimination is caused and it takes lace continuously as to an input pattern of a prescribed number of times and correcting the result into a category decided by the check discrimination newly. CONSTITUTION:The standard pattern is divided into the partial group depending on the font, the partial group is designated to apply matching. For example, if Katakana(square form Japanese syllabary) is kept writing in error while keeping the font as Kanji(Chinese character), the result of matching between the designated partial group and the entire standard pattern differs continuously and the result in the full standard pattern belongs all to the same partial group. In this case, the user considers that the designation of the partial group is in error, and the designation of the partial group is changed into the partial group to which the result of the full standard pattern belong so as to correct automatically the error in the partial group designation.
