PURPOSE:To obtain a glass product having a high-grade chemical durability by treating the surface of the glass product immediately after its formation with sulfurous acid gas and fluorohydrocarbon gas. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the glass product immediately after its formation is treated with sulfurous acid gas and hydrocarbon fluoride gas such as CH3 CHF2, etc. preferably at about 550-750 deg.C temperature range which is the temperature before the product is put into an annealing furnace. The above-described treatment can be carried out in either order of both gases of simultaneously. By this manner, the glass product having a high-grade chemical durability in which Na, Ca, etc. present does not elute into the liquid in the container can be obtained.
