PURPOSE:To improve the shutter effect of a non-lighting part by a method different from a method for forming a metallic mask by using a liquid crystal compsn. added with the dye meeting the characteristics of a sensitizer for a liquid crystal having large double refractive index. CONSTITUTION:The transmittivity of a twisted nematic liquid crystal display element has a tendency to a decrease when the product of the double refractive index and cell thickness is increased if the element is sandwiched between two sheets of orthogonal polarizers. The liquid crystal compsn. is constituted by selecting the liquid crystal material having the largest possible double refrac tive index and adding the dichroic coloring dye which decreases the trans mittivity in the max. sensitivity wavelength region of the film thereto. The substantial shutter effect is thereby obtd. and the imprinting level of a camera is improved. The need for a metallic mask, etc. is eliminated and the simplifica tion of the process for production and the reduction of the cost are made pos sible.
