PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF OPTICALLY-ACTIVE CARBAZOLE DERIVATIVES

Optically active carbazole derivs. I [R=(un)substituted amino! were prepd. Thus, 500 mg S-(+)-4-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)-carbazole in 4 ml MeOH was mixed with 2.8 ml isopropyl amine and heated at 65≰C for 2 hrs. After drying, the resulting material was dissolved in 10 ml hot ethyl acetate and reacted with 0.24 ml glacial acetic acid to give S-(-)- carbazole-hydroacetate, which was washed with ethyl acetate to give 410 mg S-(-)-(1-carbazol-4-yloxy)-3-isopropylaminopropan-2-ol hydroacetate.
