PURPOSE:To obtain a completely two-input, two-output optical switch by inserting a transparent dummy plate which has the same refractive index and the same thickness with a transparent plate carrying the total reflecting film of a total reflecting mirror at the intersection of both optical paths of propagation when two optical fibers are coupled together optically. CONSTITUTION:Light from the 1st optical fiber 60 is incident on and refracted by a glass plate 80 as shown by an optical line 76 of propagation indicated by a solid line, further projected and refracted again, and coupled optically with the 2nd optical fiber 64. Light from the 3rd optical fiber 68 is incident on and refracted by the glass plate 80 as shown by a dotted line, further projected and refracted again, and coupled with the 4th optical fiber 72 optically. When the optical paths are switched, a mirror 82 is inserted instead of the glass plate 80 and then the light from the 1st optical fiber 60 is incident on and refracted by the glass plate 86 of the mirror 82 as shown by a solid line 90, and the light is refracted again when projected from the glass plate 86, and then coupled with the optical fiber 71 optically. Similarly, the light from the 3rd optical fiber 86 is coupled with the 2nd optical fiber 64. |
