PURPOSE:To enhance safety and eliminate the flying of an unnecessary ink quantity by dividing an opposed electrode into split electrodes and providing a high-voltage switching circuit to apply a voltage selectively to the split electrodes. CONSTITUTION:An opposed electrode 6 is divided into three split electrodes 11 represented by A, B and C which are fixed to an electrode holder 10 formed with an electrically insulative material. In addition, the space between each split electrode 11 is electrically insulated by an insulative layer 12. A power supply 13 is always connected to the split electrode A 11 at left, and a high voltage switching circuit 14 to the split electrodes B, C 11. Under the above arrangement, safe operation is assured and the flying of unnecessary ink quantity due to a higher voltage between the exposed opposed electrode 6 and a recording electrode 23 than that at a location where a recording element exists, is eliminated. Further, no fouling of the surrounding is caused with no arc generation. Thus there is no fear that the opposite electrode 6 and the recording electrode 23 would be damaged. |
