PURPOSE:To recover metallic Zn directly with high efficiency from manganese cells selected from waste dry cells by treating with a combination of a sorting machine and a crushing machine and executing melting in the final stage. CONSTITUTION:Selectively recovered waste dry cells are sorted and alkali manganese cells are separated from manganese cells. The sorted manganese cells are crushed and crushed product is separated by sieving to crushed pieces and powdery product consisting primarily of MnO2. The crushed pieces are magnetically separated to remove iron component, and the crushed pieces after the magnetic separation are subjected to air elutriation to remove paper, and plastics. Then, the crushed pieces after air elutriation are crushed secondarily, and secondarily crushed product are sieved into a component consisting essentially of Zn piece and powdery product consisting essentially of carbon rod. The first component is melted and metallic Zn is recovered. By this process metallic Zn is recovered directly with high efficiency realizing thus saving of energy consumption and utilization of resource.
