PURPOSE:To make a transmission control means proper by providing a communication equipment for data transmission and reception with a means which discriminates whether this equipment is in the called side or not at the communication start time. CONSTITUTION:A facsimile equipment connected to a line 2a through a network controller NCU 2 is provided with a circuit 32 where information indicating whether this equipment is the called side or not is stored, and '1' or '0' is written in this circuit 32 at the communication start time by a control circuit 40 based on signals 28a and 26a from an automatic/manual incoming setting circuit 28 and an incoming detecting circuit 26. Thereafter, the control circuit 40 performs the transmission control in prescribed procedures based on the outputs of the storage circuit 32, an operation part 34, a continuous error retransmission selection detecting circuit 36, etc. Thus, the data transmission is controlled without hindrance.
