PURPOSE:To obtain an optical fiber cable having superior tension resistance by making the quantity of diameter reduction of a spiral tape corresponding to the constant extension of an optical fiber larger than the quantity of spiral diameter reduction of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:Optical fibers 33 are provided spirally around the outer periphery of the spiral tape 36. When the pitch Po of the optical fiber and the pitch PT of the spiral tape are so selected that DELTAdo<DELTAdT where DELTAdo and DELTAdt are variation in the center diameter do of the spiral shape of the optical fiber 33 and variation in the center diameter dt of the spiral tape 36, the quantity of diameter reduction of the spiral tape 36 corresponding to the extension of the cable becomes larger than the quantity of diameter reduction of the spiral shape of the optical fiber 33. Consequently, even when the cable is tensed to increase in length, stress applied to the optical fiber is extremely and effect with superior tension resistance is displayed.
