PURPOSE:To prevent toner and foreign matter form sticking on the surface of an intermediate recording medium by placing the intermediate recording medium and a transfer roller in a noncontact state before the start of image recording operation or after the end and cleaning the intermediate recording medium. CONSTITUTION:When the image recording operation starts, a drum 1 as the intermediate recording medium makes one turn and the toner sticking on the drum 1 is removed by the cleaning blade 15 in a cleaner 14. When the driving of the drum 1 is stopped and a motor 40 for energizing force application is driven, the motor 40 is turned off once, a microswitch 42 is turned on, and an electric brake 38 is turned on to press the drum 1 against the transfer roller 9, thereby making preparations for the image recording operation. The brake 38 is turned off at the end of the image recording operation while the drum 1 is held in a rotating state to place the drum 1 and transfer roller 9 in the noncontact state, and toner or other foreign matter sticking on the surface of the drum 1 is removed by the cleaner 14. |
