PURPOSE:To count the number of nuclear fuel pellets by providing an offset part of the moving line of the nuclear fuel pellets, making a clearance with a very small angle and transmitting a light beam using the clearance when the pellets pass through the offset part. CONSTITUTION:Moving lines 1 and 1' of the pellet in a sealed cabin move a columnar pellet 3 from by several tens to by several hundreds continuously. The moving direction of the lines 1 and 1' are arranged so as to parallel with each other and at an offset part 2, a V-shaped groove 12' is communicated from the moving line 1 to the moving lien 1' with a tilting angle of 3 degrees to 7 degrees in the moving line 1' with a tilting angle of 3 degrees to 7 degrees in the moving direction of the pellet 3. The maximum clearance between the pellets due to the above constitution is 0.7mm-1.7mm and the clearance at the position where the light beam of a photoelectric sensor is transmitted becomes the clearance of 0.35mm-0.85mm. And by making the light beam from a light source 13 to pass targetting at the lower direction of the clearance between pellets, the light beam is measured by being made incident on the photoreceiving element 14 through a hole 19.
