PURPOSE:To relive the load of character input and error correction by extracting and offering automatically a correct word candidate when the user makes a mistake in spelling of Kanji (Chinese character) or usage. CONSTITUTION:A character string inputted from an input means 2, e.g., 'Sen Mon' is fed to a reading character string generating means 4, a Kanji dictionary 3 is retrieved based on Kanji 'Sen', 'Mon' constituting the obtained character string, the reading of each Kanji is extracted, a possible reading character is generated and given to a word dictionary 5 based on the obtained reading character string, a corresponding word candidate is extracted, the result is fed to a word candidate limit means 7, where the word candidate is limited and fed to a word output means 8, where a desired word is decided and outputted.
