PURPOSE:To obtain the titled copolymer with prevented deterioration in luster on the surface of molded articles without deteriorating physical properties, by adding a basic potassium compound to a rubber-modified styrene based copolymer latex and adding an electrolyte thereto to flocculate the above- mentioned latex. CONSTITUTION:A basic potassium compound, e.g. KOH, is added to a copolymer latex obtained by emulsion polymerizing a styrene based monomer and an unsaturated nitrile monomer, e.g. acrylonitrile, in the presence of a rubber latex while keeping the pH of the aqueous phase at 7-10 and containing free fatty acids at 0.1-5pts.wt., based on 100pts.wt. solid content in the copolymer latex, basic potassium compound and an electrolyte, e.g. MgSO4, is subsequently added thereto to flocculate the above-mentioned copolymer latex and give the aimed copolymer.
