PURPOSE:To enable locking of piston rod without causing shearing or rotary force by constructing such that the piston rod is held between two semi- cylindrical brake members and locked. CONSTITUTION:Upon removal of the fluid pressure in a fluid pressure actuator 20, the force for pushing the pistons 22, 23 outward will be missed to apply the energizing force of a coil spring 14 onto the brake members 6, 7 which will rotate in the direction for closing the upper section along the innercircumference of the supporting members 8, 9. Since the center of a circle containing the outercircumferential sections of the brake members 6, 7 is shifted lower than the center of the cross-section of the piston rod 5, the piston rod 5 is held by the brake members 6, 7 from the opposite sides and locked without causing shearing or rotary force.
