The detector comprises a channel 7 for injecting a gas into the vessel 1 and for creating therein a detection pressure, a dip tube 9 whose lower end dips into the liquid 2 and whose upper end emerges in a first tank 12 which is itself connected by a transparent level-observation tube 13 to a second tank 14, the volume ratio between, on the one hand, the dip tube 9 and the first tank 12, on the other hand, the observation tube 13 and the second tank 14 being such that at the detection pressure, the level of liquid rises in the said assembly until it partially fills the observation tube 13. <IMAGE>
