PURPOSE:To eliminate problems, e.g. apparatus corrosion by molecular bromine liberating in pulverization, etc. advantageously without requiring special operating conditions, by using an industrially readily available allyl alcohol based compound as a detoxicating agent in wet pulverizing the titled compound. CONSTITUTION:Decadibromodiphenyl ether (DBDE) useful as an additive type flame retardant for synthetic resins or a brominated diphenyl ether consisting essentially thereof is set pulverized in the presence of an allyl alcohol based compound, particularly allyl alchol, methallyl or crotyl alcohol, particularly 2-butene-1,4-diol, by the well-known method to detoxicate molecular bromine liberating in pulverization without requiring special operating conditions nor affecting DBDE. Thus, DBDE is advantageously pulverized without problems incorrosion of apparatuses and pollution of working environment, etc. The reaction product of the above-mentioned alcohol with the molecular bromine can be readily removed by washing after the pulverization, etc.
