Detection of the accidental maximum level of a liquid medium. The detector according to the invention comprises: - a ballasted support base 4; - a rigid reinforcement 5 rising from the support; - a vertically mobile float 6 carried by the reinforcement and capable of interacting with a contactor 25; - and an emitter 16 of electromagnetic radiation whose operation, from an electric source 22, is made dependent on the contactor.
