Novel polyfunctional isocyanate derivs. of (meth)acrylamide homo- or copolymer, free from alkaline and urea gps., are prepd. by reacting the corresp. N-chloramide deriv. of the homo- or copolymer with a tert. amine having a PKa value >7 in presence of an inert solvent at 20-180 degrees C. The comonomer is pref. styrene, (di)methylstyrene, chlorostyrene and/or alkyl (meth)acrylate, esp. (m)ethyl, butyl, hexyl, decyl and (di)decyl (meth)acrylate. The prods. are pref. crosslinked with divinyl benzene or divinylether. Use compared to similar prior art cpds, the above are free of alkaline or urea gps and have a much greater NCO content, 20-100% of the amide gps. being converted to NCO gps. They are suitable for coating compsns. esp. for polyol based lacquers.
