The invention relates to a process for producing a foam body having two foam layers of different density. In order to improve the ease of production, to reduce the weight and increase the strength of a two-layer foam body of this kind, according to the invention, before the foaming of the two plastics which form the foam layers, a coupling layer is introduced into the production mould for the foam body, which coupling layer is arranged so as to be movable with respect to the production mould and separates the region of the first foam from that of the second. The foaming of the region with low foam density is carried out before the foaming of the region with high foam density.
