For the production of a decorative layer having optical embossing but a smooth surface, the invention provides for a coloured layer of coloured pigments to be printed onto a smooth decorative paper, for a structured pattern to be embossed at least into the coloured layer and subsequently for the structured decorative paper to be impregnated with a curable resin and a fine resin layer with a smooth transparent surface to be produced.
