PURPOSE:To perform accurate retrieval by varying the value of the 2nd storage means on the basis of the fine adjustment extent of a frame other than a spe cific frame and controlling a moving means on the basis of the values of the 1st and the 2nd storage means when an image frame is retrieved by a specifying means. CONSTITUTION:When a normal retrieval key 31 for retrieving a normal frame other than an index frame is pressed, the number of the specified frame is stored in a register 27 and a CPU 25 generates the number of pulses by multiply ing the number of pulses corresponding to an interval Nx between frames by the number of frames from the index frame to the specified frame. Pulse motors 12 and 16 are driven through a motor driving circuit 30 to move X-directional and Y-directional carrier tables 11 and 15, thereby positioning the desired frame at a readout position. When a fine adjusting key 33 is pressed, image frames are moved in the opposite direction of the arrow of the fine adjusting key 33 and a coordinate R2X is increased or decreased in the direction of fine adjust ment within the range of frames retrieved by the normal retrieval key 31. Conse quently, accurate retrieval is performed.
