For the desublimation of phthalic anhydride (PA), it is known alternately to connect at least two desublimators to a heating medium circulation and to a coolant circulation. In this case, however, the desublimators are always exposed during the switch-overs to the full temperature differences. Owing to temperature shocks, locally and temporally limited stress peaks arise which cause cracks and production interruptions and also desublimator fires. The invention prevents such temperature shocks by storing heat for a certain period via a heating medium line 18 connected to the heating medium circulation 11, with a heating medium store 19 and utilising this heat for preheating a desublimator 1, 17 to be melted off, or for precooling a desublimator 1, 17 to be loaded. Moreover, by means of a by-pass line 25 bridging the heating medium store 12, the requirement for heating energy can be kept virtually constant. <IMAGE>
