PURPOSE:To improve the long-term shelf stability of a fogged silver halide photograhic sensitive material for a direct positive contg. an N-methylol compound by allowing the sensitive material to stand at a specified temp. and a specified relative humidity. CONSTITUTION:An N-methylol compound is added to a fogged silver halide emulsion for a direct positive, and the emulsion is applied to a support, dried and allowed to stand at 35-45 deg.C and 60-70% relative humidity for a certain period. The N-methylol compound is a compound having a methylol residue bonded to an N atom adjacent to a carbonyl group, and a compound represented by the formula (where R1 is H, methylol or alkyl, preferably 1-5C optionally substituted alkyl, R2 is alkyl, preferably 1-5C alkyl, alkoxy, preferably 1-5C alkoxy or (a), and R1 and R2 may form a ring) is especially useful as the N- methylol compound. |
