Preparation of Cu(II) acetate.H2O with the distinguishing feature that, per mole of Cu(CH3COO)2.H2O to be prepared, 1 mol of Cu in the form of basic copper carbonate having a Cu content of 40-55 % by weight and 1 mol of acetic anhydride are metered in separate streams and with intensive stirring into 100 to 200 g of 30-65 % strength by weight aqueous acetic acid, which is heated to 50-80 DEG C, such that a pH of </= 3.6 is maintained and a reaction temperature of 90 DEG C is not exceeded, and the precipitated copper(II) acetate monohydrate is then separated from the suspension in a manner known per se. The process product contains less than 0.01 % by weight of impurities and is soluble in water virtually without turbidity.
