A stroke counter for parts which move in a reciprocating manner, such as piston rods, press stamps etc., has two sensors (14, 16), which are arranged spaced apart in the movement direction and interact with an index-mark body (12) which is carried by the moving part. The output signals of the sensors (14, 16) are passed via a logic circuit (24-28) to a counter (30), the logic circuit (24-28) allowing the output signal of one of the sensors (14, 16) to pass through only when the output signal of the other of the sensors has previously been received. <IMAGE>
