PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration due to the welding light and heat and the damage due to the external force with covering of the elastic sealing material with a cap by bearing freely incliningly the intermediate part inside a cylindrical body by projecting one end side of a detecting rod from the tip opening of the cylindrical body and by interposing the elastic sealing material between the inner peripheral face of the cap closing the tip opening and detecting rod. CONSTITUTION:The detector 1 provides the detecting rod 4 that the intermediate part of cylindrical outer cylinder 2 and its lower end opening is supported by universal bearing 3 there in and the cap 5 to close the lower end opening of the outer cylinder 2 projecting the lower end part of the detecting rod 4. The cap 5 is then fitted to the outer cylinder 2 by screwing and the through hole 5a of the detecting rod 4 is provided as well on the tip part. The gap with the detecting rod 4 is then sealed by forming a step part 5b so as to surround the through hole 5a on the inner face of the tip part of the cap 5 and by fitting-in an annular elastic sealing material 6. Contact pines 111-114 are arranged surrounding an electrode 9 on the upper end and a probe 8 on the tip of the detecting rod 4 and are connected to the controlling circuit of the automatic profiling welder.
