The invention relates to a sheath-shaped protective element, predominantly for human limbs, and to a method of producing such a protective element.
<??>The protective element comprises a layered piece cut in suitable manner from a composite material having an elastic foam core and thin tissue layers on top, which is rolled up to form a tube, two opposite sides bluntly abutting each other. In the longitudinal direction of the joint a strip of a material which is nonelastic in the transverse direction is sewn on. Sewing takes place on a machine which has at least two needles on either side of the joint and means which serve to cross the threads on the side facing away from the strip.
