PURPOSE:To enhance the activity of mycelia, increase the yield of fruit bodies and improve the quality of the fruit bodies, by adding brown algae which are of given particle size, in the form of fibers or strip cut pieces to a culture medium in cultivation of basidiomycetes. CONSTITUTION:Brown algae, e.g. sea tangle, WAKAME seaweed, sea trumpet or sea oak, are formed into particles having 3-100 mesh particle size or the form of fibers or strip cut pieces or homogenate or liquid or paste by cell disruption. A growth promoter containing the above-mentioned brown algae is added to the conventional culture medium in cultivating basiodiomycetes, e.g. Pleurotus ostreatus, Falmmulina velutipes or Pholiota nameko and cultivated.
