In the production of granules (pellets) of plastic, strands of plastic are passed through cooling tanks which are open at the top. These strands are received in these cooling tanks and brought together. Water cooling and possibly air drying take place before the strands pass into a pelletiser. The severing and separate removal of not yet adequately solidified, inhomogeneous strands, the so-called preliminary material, present difficulties. This problem is solved according to the invention by a directing, deflecting and severing device in the form of a slide gate which is arranged in the discharge path and closes and opens an opening in the discharge path for removal of the feed material. When the slide gate is open, the preliminary material leaves through this opening and is collected. In the operating position, the slide gate abruptly closes this opening and severs the preliminary material. At the same time, the stabilised strands continue to be taken along on the discharge path, the slide gate representing part of the latter in the closed state. |
