A liquid-crystal display is used in a telephone device with an operating handset and a support for the operating handset. The rear side of the liquid-crystal display is provided with a fluorescent layer and the support for the operating handset has an illumination device. In a particular design, the light in the operating handset is fed from the light-receiving point to the fluorescent layer using an optical waveguide.
