The invention relates to a support for plates, for example shelves, on hanging or tensioned ropes. The balls, which have a vertical, central bore for the ropes, are firmly screwed to the rope with a horizontal screw. For this, the balls do not previously have to be threaded on, but can be attached at any desired point on the rope by virtue of a vertical slot leading to the bore. The plates are lowered onto the balls by their round holes after they have been inserted at the desired height by virtue of slots leading from the edge of the plate to the hole.
