Use of sulphoalkanecarboxylic acid esters

The use is described of mixtures of isomeric sulphoalkanecarboxylic acid esters on the basis of C8-C24-carboxylic acids and C1-C4-alkanols having, on average, from 1 to 3 sulphonate groups randomly distributed over the alkyl chain, which may also be present as salts, as emulsifiers or coemulsifiers in the emulsion polymerisation of ethylenically unsaturated monomers.
