In protective breathing equipment as required, for example, when fighting fires and in which the user must wear a breathing mask it is intended that a compressed air breathing apparatus and a filtering breathing apparatus in combination can be connected to a joint mask body, it being possible to switch to the compressed air breathing apparatus or the filtering device, as required, in order to save the breathing air process of the compressed air breathing apparatus, if required, as far as possible.
