The invention relates to a device for avoiding the penetration of rock dust or the like into the face area shielded by shield-type support assemblies, by means of sealing parts arranged between two adjacent shield-type support assemblies in the area of the canopies and the gob shields and bridging the gap between these shield-type support assemblies, in which arrangement conveying means actuated by the canopy or a sliding canopy and in the form of scrapers or the like and/or spraying devices are allocated to the sealing parts. Within the scope of the idea behind the invention, the sealing parts, arranged only at every second shield-type support assembly in the longitudinal direction of the face in the form of dust-collecting channels, can be designed as a link chain in the area of the canopy and the gob shield so that the intermediate space between adjacent shield-type support assemblies can thus also be reliably sealed against the penetration of dust, mud or the like during the face advance.
