Control of tyre wear - has different coloured rubber strip buried in tyre gum and only visible when tyre is worn

During the fabrication of the tyre a transverse red or white strip of rubber is inserted in the rolling band of the tyre. The deoth of insertion is such that it appears when the tyre rolling band attains its limit of normal wear. Any unusual wear, e.g. on one side only, becomes very apparent and can be remedied.
