PURPOSE:To enhance hydrogenation reactivity for converting aldehyde to alcohol, by forming an aldehyde hydrogenating catalyst by supporting catalytic components consisting of rhodium, iron and/or molybdenum by a carrier. CONSTITUTION:Oxides, chlorides, nitrates or carbonates of (a) rhodium and (b) iron and/or molybdenum are dissolved in a solvent such as methanol or tetrahydrofran and a carrier is immersed in the resulting solution and, after the solvent has been removed, the impregnated carrier is dried and receives heat treatment if necessary to form an aldehyde hydrogenating catalyst wherein the catalytic metal compound was supported by the carrier. This catalyst is subjected to usual reducing treatment to be activated before used in reaction. The aforementioned reducing treatment is simply and pref. performed under raising temp. by using hydrogen-containing gas. |
